Baby wipes are my “must have” when it comes to cleaning up my baby, but recently I came across articles on the Web about baby wipes containing chemicals that can cause rashes. What are thoughts on this? Are baby wipes safe?
There is certainly a role for baby wipes as they are convenient to use, especially during long journeys or when the family is out at malls, etc where it can be difficult to get access to clean bathrooms. However, they should not be used all the time, in place of water and soap.
Most baby wipes contain chemicals and some even contain “antibacterial” properties. These may result in allergic reactions, which may manifest as rashes in susceptible children and babies. Inadequate cleaning, especially in the diaper area, may also contribute to the rash.
