Cool tipid tips
The rains may have come, but PAGASA predicts the hot days of El Niño will last until this month. Expect your trusty bentilador to stay in heavy use. To save on your electric bill, here are some tips from Meralco.
Choose the right type of fan to cool a place. Desk fans are most effective for small rooms. Stand fans, which offer flexibility with their adjustable height levels, are best for medium-sized rooms. Ceiling fans are for large, spacious rooms. Their larger blades push more air around, stirring cooler air along the floor for additional cooling.
Set your fan speed according to your cooling needs. Remember that the speed setting is directly proportional to the fan’s energy consumption. The faster the blades rotate, the more energy the fan consumes.
Use the oscillating feature of your desk fan to provide the cooling you need. Lock the oscillator when cooling is needed in one direction only.
Perform regular maintenance and cleaning to keep your electric fan running efficiently. Doing so can save you up to 30 percent of energy. Remove accumulated dust on the blades, motor housings, and grills, which reduces the air current generated by the fan. Cobwebs, dust, and other impurities that pile up at the motor’s cover prevent air from cooling the motor. This causes additional heating of the motor’s windings, which leads to higher energy consumption.
